"It's not about being good at something, it's about being good to yourself." Unknown
Welcome. I am a qualified Hatha yoga teacher based in Bridport, Dorset with experience of working as a professional life coach. I instruct themed yoga practices that offer real purpose and clear direction in small groups and one-to-one. There is also an option to engage my services as a holistic coach. Alex 😉

When I discovered yoga, I had a lot of questions. One of the biggest was will I be able to do it. Yoga said to me ‘Save your questions. Start practicing’. And I did. Like many others before me, I have come to realise I don’t practice yoga because I can do it, but because I need it in my life.
Yoga is my mirror. It’s my best friend. It’s my sounding board. It’s my motivator. It’s my moderator. Yoga always has my back.

More about my yoga classes
The lessons have a themed purpose and I take you through a skillfully sequenced practice. Noticing how you feel, you seek out the appropriate pace for your practice and variations of the postures that work best for you.
We are co-creators of the experience. You are as responsible for the experience as I am. The experience is your best guide in yoga. I encourage you to explore what the experience is pointing you to. Lean into whatever experience you are being given. Follow the guidance you gain from the experience and see your yoga practice grow. You are your supreme teacher.
Before your first session, I invite you to share with me details of any injuries or chronic conditions that may be relevant to you practicing yoga.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions in class and, most importantly, just be you! 🙂
My weekly yoga classes are suitable for all abilities and all ages. Classes are 60 or 90 minutes in duration and take place at locations in Bridport as well as online. I am also a cover teacher for Bridport Park Yoga.
Teaching variations of foundational yoga postures, I invite you to explore what feels best to you as an individual. Breathing techniques and meditation are an integrated part of the practice. You can expect an emphasis on moving with awareness, doing familiar things differently, and moments of stillness.
Yoga was traditionally taught on an individual basis. One-to-ones are perfect for students looking for a more personalised approach: students who want to choose a class time that suits them, and/or students with a specific objective in mind for their practice. Suitable for those new to yoga and students with an established practice, one-to-one sessions last for 60 minutes. They can take place in my home yoga studio in Bothenhampton, Bridport, online via Zoom, or in the comfort of your own home.
You can also book a small group yoga session (75 minutes) enabling you to practice with friends and family (3-6 people). These are held online or at an appropriate venue arranged by your group.
MORE ABOUT HOLISTIC COACHING
It is essential we regularly check in with ourselves, and recognise that imbalances - physically, mentally, and emotionally - can show up in our personal lives; they can affect our sense of self, our health, our work, and our relationships. I can help you in assessing your lifestyle and in bringing every aspect of it into balance.
Through conversation, I will assist you in cultivating the conditions for change, in building stronger relationships - starting with the one you have with yourself, creating opportunities for learning, and moving into a place of action. Finding a path forwards that works for you might mean starting small. That’s okay. The important part is to begin.
60-minute sessions are one-to-one and cost £50. They can take place over the phone, online or in person.

MORE ABOUT ME
I have been practicing yoga for over 25 years and qualified as a life coach in 2005.
I have taught Hatha Yoga in Bridport and its surrounding villages since 2014. I completed the British Wheel of Yoga Level 1 Foundation Course followed by a Level 4 Diploma in Teaching Yoga with Exmouth-based course tutor, Angela Ashwin.
I am in the third year of Libby Hinsley’s ongoing ‘Anatomy Bites’ programme for trained yoga teachers who are committed to teaching and empowering their students with evidence-based body literacy.
Prior to teaching yoga, I worked as a Town Planner designing spaces that allow for work, rest and play. I have also been a Living Skills Co-ordinator working alongside homeless and adults with learning difficulties, and I was a Freelance Arts Administrator.
Alex’s enthusiasm, knowledge and professionalism blended with the natural ability of being able to teach creates a space that allows you to focus and enjoy the many benefits of yoga. Alex adjusted many of the movements due to a previous injury to allow me to experience the many benefits that various poses bring to body and mind. I would thoroughly recommend.

I took up regular one to one yoga sessions with Alex over lockdown. It has been a lifesaver. I was in a rut and the yoga sessions helped kick start my physical health and my mood. It helped me find space for me. Yoga has brought me a sense of calm to my life by enabling me to focus on my mind and body. I’m not a typical yoga student, my fitness is rubbish and I had felt uncomfortable trying new things but was put completely at ease by Alex and I have learnt to listen to my body and to just see what my body can do. Regular online sessions have worked for me, I use two different devices and Alex can help me adjust my posture and change movements to easier options if they are a bit challenging for me. Alex is thorough and very knowledgeable and is always focused upon my wellbeing.

I have been practising yoga for many years but find my body is changing with age. I am over 70 and have various arthritic joints and stiffness. I can really recommend Alex’s classes as she is sympathetic to individual restrictions and allows individuals to listen to their body and offers variations in positions to accommodate their problems. I really appreciate the various quotations that Alex offers to help us meditate and cope with various aspects of life. She has the gift to support both the body and mind and make you feel lighter and able to deal with life. Alex has the ability to get to know her students and tune in to their specific needs. I look forward to each practise and feel benefit both physically and emotionally.

Having attended various yoga classes during the past 30 years in Somerset and Dorset, I have found Alex to be the most dedicated and informed teacher whose class presentations are superb!…always well structured with a theme, always interesting. Alex carefully considers individual members’ abilities and limitations in her classes. She always enables students to adapt within her lesson plan when necessary, whilst leading us all towards feeling calmer, more comfortable and lighter in mind and body! In my opinion, Alex is an exceptional yoga teacher.
Jane
I’ve tried several different yoga teachers and Aex has offered me by far the most fulfilling and productive practice. Her thorough approach enables me to fully understand the poses and feel comfortable stretching myself to explore more challenging positions. She has an excellent anatomical knowledge and works hard to support all abilities and physical limitations.
Sam
Alex's teaching is inclusive and sensitive to any limitations a student has without removing the challenges that yoga can present. She provides classes with structure upon which students can build their home practice whatever their level of previous experience. She also encourages mindfulness within the practice of yoga.
Chris
Alex is passionate and dedicated with a unique and innovative approach to teaching yoga. Every class is different. She combines in depth understanding of both yoga and human anatomy with the skill to adapt poses to suit students of differing abilities. She is constantly seeking to enhance her knowledge and practice for the benefit of her students. Since starting with Alex's classes 4 years ago, I have noticed significant improvements in my strength and flexibility as well as straightening my twisted spine and my knee pain has largely disappeared.
Carole
Alex is passionate about yoga, and enthusiastically shares the disciplines with her students. She has a vast personal experience of yoga, and is also actively searching for new ways to use the teachings and incorporate learning from her anatomy mentor, to enable people like me – over 60, stiff and inflexible with no previous experience of yoga – to participate and benefit from the sessions. Alex uses and shares lesson plans, and allows time for us to practice the movements, so our bodies work towards achieving the best they can. She is observant, vigilant and non-judgemental. As a result of my weekly participation over the last 18 months, I can feel parts of my body moving that have previously been seized up, I stand straighter, my chronic knee pain has resolved and recently my residual lymphoedema has also diminished.

Hello women like me. I am post-menopausal and had lost my way. I know you understand. And so does Alex. Alex will guide you on the mat and off, she will base your practice on your own needs physically and mentally and she will be alongside you as you learn to walk in front of your own path and meet yourself with curiosity and resilience. Alex has a wealth of knowledge based on years of life coaching, yoga teaching and her own personal development. You’ve come to the right place. I’m so happy for you.
